22 Daily Positive Affirmations For Kids
I bet you feel silly doing it, don’t you?
You stand in front of the mirror. You’re all by yourself. No one could possibly hear you, but you still feel ridiculous telling yourself some simple positive affirmations.
I’m right there with you. Whether you want to do them or not, your kids will like them. I WISH I were as brave and shameless as my kids sometimes.
Our 4-year-old has all the confidence in the world running around with his arms propped up like a T-Rex. He’ll snarl and roar all he wants in public.
I want to make sure he holds onto that self-confidence. I grew up extremely shy and was too concerned about what other people thought of me.
We have our kids recite daily positive affirmations every night with us, and you should consider it too.
What Are My Favorite Positive Affirmations For Kids?
I don’t want to create The Great Wall of Affirmations. You can find hundreds if you really want to. I picked out mine and my wife’s favorites to share. We narrowed the list down to 22:
- I am brave
- I am strong
- I am safe
- I am smart
- I am loved
- I got this
- I’m a winner
- I do hard things
- I believe in myself
- I’m proud of myself
- I am confident
- I always do my best
- I am a leader
- I won’t give up
- I am creative
- I love myself
- I cannot lose if I do not quit
- I am beautiful/handsome
- I am important
- I will be positive
- I am in control of my emotions
- I am unique
All these positive affirmations fit our criteria: empowering and easy to remember. If they aren’t simple enough for your kids to remember, they’re not going to be as effective.
What Are The Benefits of Positive Affirmations For Kids?
I found this article from PositivePsychology and loved it. I recommend you read the whole thing, but I want to highlight some specific things I learned.
Research
Psychologists have done studies for years to see how effective positive affirmations are. They even performed MRIs and saw positive changes in the brain while saying the affirmations.
Reduced Stress
What kind of stress do kids have?
- Trying to meet parents’ expectations
- Learning new skills
- School
- Peer pressures
If your child tells themself every day the affirmations above, stress can become water off a duck’s back.
That first one I listed though… That’s on you. Create an environment where your kids feel safe when they come up short of your expectations.
If your child is struggling to learn how to play guitar, you don’t want them to quit. You’d much rather overhear them say “I won’t give up.”
School can be stressful for multiple reasons:
- Grades
- Relationships
- Bullying
What matters most in those situations is your child’s perception of themselves. A more confident child will perform better in all 3 categories.
Conclusion
Kids think they need to be perfect sometimes. We have these positive affirmations for kids to help them realize that their best is enough.
They’re still learning. Their best is going to keep getting better. They just need a little confidence in themselves. And support from their parents will go a long way.
Start using these affirmations as early as you can. Our 18-month-old participates at bedtime already. Few things make me happier than seeing these tiny humans repeat their affirmations.
