I’ll review the SlumberPod and share my honest thoughts and experiences with the product. I’ll cover everything from setup and ease of use to its effectiveness in helping children sleep better while traveling. If you’re a parent who loves to travel but dreads the sleepless nights that often come with it, you won’t want to miss this review of the SlumberPod.
What is SlumberPod?
The SlumberPod is a blackout tent made to cover a mini crib or small playpen. If you can’t blackout an entire room, this is an alternative.
It helps your baby sleep more soundly in an otherwise distracting room.
Who Created SlumberPod?
Mother and daughter duo Katy Mallory and Lou Childs created SlumberPod. After a visit to her mother’s, Katy and her husband got no sleep due to their baby waking up and staying awake because Mom and Dad were in the same room. After failing to find a solution online, Katy took matters into her own hands and created SlumberPod with her mother.
Top Benefits of SlumberPod

Safe: They have considered parents’ concerns for airflow to ensure a low risk of CO2 rebreathing.
Portable: It is very easy to travel with and compact. It was designed to fix the sleepless nights that families would typically have without it while traveling.

They’ve recently added another pouch to add either a fan or sound machine.

SlumberPod Pricing
The SlumberPod starts at $179.99, with an option to include a fan for $199.99. You can buy replacement rods, pouches, and carry bags on their website. The cost for us has easily been worth the extra sleep we have been able to get with ours.
SlumberPod Pros and Cons
No product is 100% perfect, so I want to talk about the good and the bad we have experienced, even though the good far outweighs the bad.
SlumberPod Pros
-Better Sleep
-Simple setup
-Portable
-Durable
-Packs into a compact carry bag
-Safe
-Lightweight
It is going to last a long time and deliver on promises of better sleep and convenience. As I said before, the pros far outweigh the cons.
SlumberPod Cons
-Price
-Annoying to set up in a small room
-Some babies take longer to get accustomed
That’s it. Those are the only cons I can think of. The SlumberPod is a small tent, so if you’ve ever tried setting up a tent in a small room, it’s not impossible, but maneuvering the rods is just obnoxious. It will take up more space than a crib cover.
Our babies slept in the SlumberPod easily, but we have loaned ours to other families that had to leave the zipper open for a few nights before their baby wouldn’t seem scared to have it closed. Try using it at home a couple of times before using it on a trip for the first time.
SlumberPod Alternatives
There aren’t any exact alternatives to the SlumberPod, but there are products close to the idea. Difolachy Pack ‘N Play Canopy Cover is a much less expensive option designed specifically for the Pack ‘N Play. Other options are the Brolex Mini Crib Canopy Cover and the SnoozeShade.
SlumberPod Personal Experience
When we were traveling a lot with our first two kids, we had 2 Pack ‘N Plays and 2 SlumberPods and our kids slept soundly through the night. We were living in hotels at the time because of my work. They not only gave us the opportunity for better sleep, but we were still able to have conversations, watch TV and just have a normal night without worrying about waking up the kids. I do think it is important to note that we use sound machines.
Conclusion: Should You Buy SlumberPod?
It should come as no surprise that I highly recommend the SlumberPod. Especially if you are a family that travels frequently, or if your baby sleeps in the same room as you and you want to gift yourself more restful nights. Because of its design, it is safer than crib covers and allows your baby to stand up when they wake up. The ability to place a monitor and a fan inside will also bring you more peace of mind.
